General Questions

How Our Surrey SMART Repair Service Works

A clear overview of our mobile SMART repair service.

What is SMART repair?

SMART stands for Small to Medium Area Repair Technology. It is a specialist repair process designed to repair localised damage without repainting large sections of the vehicle unnecessarily. This allows us to repair scuffs, scratches, dents, and paint damage to individual areas while maintaining a showroom quality finish.

What types of repairs do you carry out?

We specialise in bumper scuffs and scratches, dent and paint damage, crease and paint damage, panel scratches, split bumper repairs, minor accident damage, and mobile cosmetic vehicle body repairs.

Are you mobile?

Yes. We come to your home or workplace and carry out the repair on site. All repairs are completed on your driveway or private parking area. We do not work in underground parking or busy shared parking areas. Once we are fully set up, the repair unit cannot be moved during the repair process.

How long do repairs take?

All booked repairs are completed on the day of your appointment. Smaller repairs are often completed within 2 to 4 hours depending on the severity of the damage and weather conditions. Large, multiple, or additional damaged panel repairs will take longer.

Can I drive the vehicle straight after?

Yes. Vehicles are fully usable straight after the repair is completed.

Repair & Paint Questions

Paint, Materials & What We Can Repair

Important details about paint matching, dent repair, materials, and what we can safely repair.

Will the paint match my car and do you use bodyshop quality materials?

Yes. We use professional automotive and bodyshop paint systems with advanced colour matching technology to achieve a factory quality finish. These are the same professional products used daily in professional bodyshops and garages. This includes metallic, pearl, and solid colours. We do not use temporary, aerosol, or DIY repair methods.

Do you repair dents?

Yes, if the damage requires painting as part of the repair process. We repair dents using conventional SMART repair methods involving filling, shaping, and repainting where required.

Do you offer paintless dent removal (PDR)?

No. If the paint is not damaged, we would normally recommend a specialist PDR technician instead. For PDR enquiries, we can recommend a local specialist service provider.

Do you repair alloy wheels?

No. We specialise in vehicle body repairs only and are not set up for alloy wheel refurbishment.

Do you repair motorcycles?

No. We only specialise in car body repairs.

Do you repair bonnets and roofs?

No. We do not carry out bonnet or roof repairs because the bake lamps used during the curing process cannot properly reach the centre sections of these panels. Without proper curing, the finish would not meet our standards.

Do you repair electric vehicles (EVs)?

Yes, for smaller cosmetic repairs. However, larger dent damage on EVs that requires pin pulling or extensive metal work may need to go through insurance and a specialist EV approved repair centre for safety reasons.

Do you repair aluminium panels?

Yes, for smaller cosmetic repairs. Larger dents and heavy creases on aluminium panels are often unsuitable for mobile SMART repair methods and may require bodyshop repair or panel replacement.

What is blending?

Blending is where paint is lightly extended into an adjacent panel to ensure a seamless colour transition. This is sometimes required depending on the colour, repair location, and severity of the damage.

Will filler be used on dents?

Where necessary, yes. Modern body filler is a standard professional repair material used throughout the automotive repair industry when applied correctly.

Booking & Appointments

Booking Your Mobile Repair in Surrey, Hampshire or Berkshire

What we need from you before booking and what to expect on the day.

What do you need to provide an estimate?

Please send 2 to 3 photos of the damage from different angles, one photo of the full panel so we can see where the damage sits, your vehicle make or model, whether the vehicle is fully electric (EV) or hybrid, and your postcode or area. The clearer the photos, the more accurate the estimate will be.

Are estimates free?

Yes. All estimates are free with no obligation.

How accurate are photo estimates?

Photo estimates are usually very accurate. However, a revised estimate may be required if additional damage is found that was not visible in the photos, or if extra repairs are added on the day.

How long are estimates valid for?

All estimates are valid and saved for 28 days.

What do you need on the day of the repair?

We require a driveway or private parking space, enough room around the vehicle to work, access to a power socket, and space for a canopy if weather protection is needed. We cannot work in underground or shared public car parks.

What times do you normally book?

Morning appointments are usually between 8:30am and 9:30am. Afternoon appointments are usually between 12:00pm and 3:00pm for smaller repairs.

How do payments work?

We will send a secure invoice payment link once the repair is completed. Cash is also accepted. For third party payments, payment must be made 48 hours prior to the booking date. If payment is not received within this timeframe, the repair booking will be cancelled along with a cancellation fee.

Pricing Questions

How Repair Costs Are Worked Out

How estimates are calculated and why prices vary between repairs.

How much do repairs cost?

Repair pricing depends on the damaged panel, damage severity, dent size, paint damage, whether blending is required, and vehicle type and colour. Because every repair is different, estimates are provided individually.

Why are SMART repairs cheaper than a bodyshop?

SMART repairs focus only on the damaged area rather than repainting complete panels unnecessarily. This reduces labour time and material usage while still producing a professional finish.

Do you offer discounts for multiple repairs?

In some cases, yes. Where multiple repairs are booked together, labour efficiency can sometimes reduce overall costs.

Quality & Aftercare

After the Repair

What happens after the repair and how to look after freshly painted areas.

Will the repair be invisible?

The goal is always to achieve the closest possible showroom quality finish. In most cases, repaired areas blend seamlessly with the surrounding panel.

Do repaired areas fade over time?

No. Professional automotive paints and clear coats are designed for long term durability when properly applied.

Is a SMART repair as good as a bodyshop repair?

For localised cosmetic damage, yes in many cases. SMART repair is specifically designed for cosmetic vehicle damage and can often avoid the need for expensive bodyshop repairs. However, for severe accident damage or structural repairs, a full bodyshop may be more appropriate.

What happens if the damage is worse than expected?

If additional hidden damage is discovered during the repair, we will discuss everything with you before carrying out any additional work or revising the estimate. No additional work will ever be completed without your approval.

Can I wash the vehicle after the repair?

We recommend not washing the vehicle for 3 to 4 days after the repair. Pressure washing and strong acidic cleaning chemicals can affect freshly cured paint and clear coat during the early curing stage. Newly painted areas will continue to harden and fully cure over the following days.

When We May Decline Repairs

Repairs We Cannot Take On

Some damage is not suitable for mobile SMART repair and may need a bodyshop instead.

What repairs do you not take on?

We may decline repairs involving structural damage, severe accident damage, roof panels, bonnets, large commercial work, rust perforation, or heavy panel distortion requiring replacement. In these situations, we would normally recommend a bodyshop. For larger repairs, we recommend Miles Better Solutions, based just outside Woking. If any of the above damage is not shown or has been hidden within the photos provided and the repair has already been booked in, a cancellation fee of 50% of the repair estimate may apply. See our Terms & Conditions for full details.

Additional Information

Important Terms & Conditions

Important terms that help us complete the repair safely, professionally, and without surprises.

Can repairs be affected by weather conditions?

Yes. As we are a mobile repair service, repairs may need to be postponed or rescheduled due to unsuitable weather conditions, heavy rain, high winds, extreme temperatures, or unsafe working conditions.

Who is responsible for providing a suitable working area?

Customers are responsible for ensuring there is suitable access and adequate working space around the vehicle prior to the booking appointment. This includes access to a power socket and enough space for the repair unit and canopy setup.

Can older or previously repaired paintwork affect the repair?

Yes. Technicolour Smart Repair cannot be held responsible for failure of previously repaired, damaged, deteriorated, or poorly refinished paintwork outside of the repaired area.

Will all damage on the vehicle be repaired?

No. Only the agreed damaged areas listed within the estimate provided will be repaired as part of the booking.

Can colour matching vary on older vehicles?

While every effort is made to achieve a seamless showroom quality finish, exact colour matching can sometimes be affected by vehicle age, weathering, previous repairs, and paint fade.

Are customers responsible for personal belongings?

Yes. Customers are responsible for removing valuables and personal belongings from the vehicle prior to the repair appointment.

Can bookings be cancelled?

Bookings cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment may be subject to a cancellation fee. Please see our Terms & Conditions for full details.

Can you refuse or stop a repair on the day?

Yes. Technicolour Smart Repair reserves the right to refuse or stop repairs if the damage, vehicle condition, access, weather, or working conditions are unsafe or unsuitable.

Can warning lights or vehicle faults affect the repair?

Vehicles with existing warning lights, electrical faults, accident damage, or non factory modifications may not be suitable for repair.
